A Nantucket Painting

Old Farm is close to Nantucket (ferries) and it's beautiful beaches, flora and fauna which is mostly preserved. The dress code here for cedar shake houses and casual elegance reigns supreme. A visit to Nantucket is a real vacation for us from working on old houses, and I have a lovely painting from a gallery there to remind me of it's familiar landscape. It hangs in the kitchen at Old Farm with small spot lights above it; in a gold leafed frame on a white wall.

Removing A Plaster Ceiling

Last weekend Bill and Christian removed the bead board and then old plaster ceiling from the farmhouse kitchen here. It was a challenging-crazy-messy job separating wire from plaster and scooping out old fiberglass containing; fine particle blown-in insulation. The ceiling cove moldings were removed, labeled and saved first. Luckily the weather is warming and opening a window to remove old wood and dust wasn't a problem. Serious face masks and gloves were used with a saws-all and major cutting or prying tools.

The bead boards were cut up for kindling, wire folded and stacked for recycling, with old plaster and insulation double bagged for trash. Christian will rewire the room for recessed and task lighting before a new sheet rock ceiling is installed.
