Going To Galleries

We trained into Tribeca this week to see the exhibit "Painting in the Dark" (featuring Toshiko Takaezu prominent pieces), meeting Alex & Nina who now live in DUMBO. The James Cohan show features a painterly approach in the ceramic medium.

Making A Move

Making the move from Boston to Brooklyn with mortgage rates escalating has been strategic for Alex and Nina, who packed a rental truck to move the day they closed (held up 5 hrs.). Selling most their furniture initially helped with Leif, a friend and 2 hired helpers doing the job in 1.5 hrs. end of day. Alex flew to Boston next day to close there. Below are "bits left behind"...

The ceiling medallion here is a twelve piece plaster casting of an original found in South Boston and beautiful enough to duplicate. It is of the same period to this house with incredibly thick plaster acanthus leaves adding gorgeous dimension and style (made by a Greek caster who lives on Cape Cod). The Tom Dixon Etched Web light was my gift and will go to Brooklyn while bleached white oak floors will remain a memory. All formal windows had thick custom made wood shutters and a stall shower was added to the powder room after moving the laundry off the kitchen. Kitchen cabinets were stock (with site modifications), but go to the ceiling and the quartz counter is waterfall. The AC mini-split here actually can heat & cool the entire place although more are installed. The basement now has a double sink and the kitchen exhaust fan vents out the roof. The dining table sold for more than its' cost. Just the front of the house and all else inside has fresh paint and the kitchen all new appliances with Grohe fixtures everywhere. Alex is building shelves in the basement with left-over lumber... lovely to be leaving.

Flowering Trellises

Last Fall and this Spring I found time to fertilize my trellis flowers; a Climbing Hydrangea and New Dawn Climbing Rose. They have bloomed beautifully with granular organic Holly-tone.
