Creating a Live Edge Desk

This weekend Leif and I moved slabs of a walnut tree that fell in our home yard to Christian's barn. They have been stacked and drying for twenty some years and we are finally ready to make two live edge walnut topped desks. Above are the shorter 9' boards we have picked from, and a straight edge board with a live edged one will be used for each desk top.

The initial challenge was how to slab a large fallen tree on one's own property, and I felt there must be a jig that attached to a chain saw which would regulate the thickness of a second long cut. We found one on ebay for about fifty dollars and made 14 slabs about two inches thick; with the others ten foot long.
